Amazon.com's Social team is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to test scalable software solutions and services, which range from high regression features to experimental products.
The team's responsibilities include mining social data for customers and using it to bootstrap personalization and recommendations; utilizing the connections to offer a better shopping experience; and build tools and apps to represent Amazon in conversations offsite in order to engage with customers and drive more the site. During 2014, our team is working to modernize our testing and deployment process, using software QA processes such service level automation and continuous deployment. Our QAEs test code at the user level, both manually and with automated tools, using a variety of black box, gray box, and white box testing techniques. They are able to understand software internals, debug problems using log files, and automate repetitive tasks using our test automation frameworks. Our QAEs work directly with our Software Development Engineers to understand features and technical implementation, as well as working with Product Managers, User Experience Design specialists, and Customer Support personnel. They understand customer usage models and develop test plans and test suites that approximate real-world environments and use cases. They create and execute appropriate regression tests. Our QAEs are also responsible for driving our software development process toward quality-centric methodologies.
Our systems are invoked in every physical good purchase made worldwide, and our QAEs work with a number of various technologies and benefits. We are at the forefront of customer innovation and the Quality Assurance Engineers help ensure the highest quality product for our customers!
You have an in-depth understanding of formal software development processes and procedures.
You address testing and process problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context and develop pragmatic/scalable solutions and processes.
You recognize and adopt best practices in software engineering: design, testing, version control, documentation, build, and deployment - all with an emphasis on software quality.
You keep up with the new technologies and new test methodologies through actively reading, training, and sharing with other engineers.
You understand software testing techniques, such as equivalence class partitioning, boundary value testing, domain analysis testing, orthogonal arrays, etc.
You continually align your work with Amazons business objectives and seek to deliver business value.
You understand the features and detailed functional requirements of the work and help ensure that the end users needs are accounted for throughout the product lifecycle.
You build good working relationships with your team, development teams you work with, and others in Amazon.
You communicate clearly with your team and with other groups and are able to translate detailed technical problems into communicable messages. You listen effectively.
Skills & Experience
Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or relevant technical field.
2+ years of QA experience with a knowledge of working on large-scale fault tolerant distributed systems.
Excellent programming skills in Java, C++ or any one of the scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, Python, Ruby etc.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in combination with numerical and logical problem solving ability.
Experience with open source tools and resources with an exposure to UNIX platforms, preferably Linux.
Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms with experience in RDBMS, scaling challenges, data modeling, SQL, XML processing, SOAP and REST.
Proficiency in designing for performance, scalability, and availability.
Good knowledge and understanding of SDLC and testing methodologies.
Knowledge of automation tools such as Selenium and experience in Unit Testing APIs like JUnit, HttpUnit is desired.
